UNM Spring Term/Second Eight Week Classes

Raku Pottery: An exciting pottery workshop exploring the Raku process which dates back to 16th century Japan. Participants will create hand build vessels and do their own glazing. They will pull their hot pots from the kiln and place them into to a reduction atmosphere producing spectacular metallic and crackle effects.

Introduction to Lapidary/ Stone Cutting and Polishing:Learn to turn rough stones into highly polished semi-precious gemstones. In your first class participants will visit the UNM owned and abandoned Harding Mine sight and handpick up to five pounds of Lepidolite, a semi hard, pinkish to purplish plum colored and translucent stone. Lepidolite cuts and polishes quickly, the perfect stone for a beginning project.

Seeing Skills for Drawing:Learn how to draw accurately from observation, translate the three-dimensional world into two–dimensional representation using line, value, shape and texture. Subject matter will include simple geometric forms as well as more complex material such as the human head.
