Artist Beware, A lesson from Jerry Emmons

I was recently a victim of Copyrights violations by a Multinational Publishing Company that I licensed some images to. They wouldn't respond to my personal inquiries and trying to get through the multitude of corporate layers was a challenge to say the least. There was a substaintial amount of royalties ($) due me. Frustrated by the giant, I retained an attorney who does Copyrights work here in Taos, her name is Lee Boothby of Maestas & Boothby. Without going thru the whole story, she was able to get their ears (and probably other extremities) to recognize their liability to me. She got me paid fairly quickly for very reasonable fee. I recommend any artist entering into an Image Iicensing Agreement or finds themselves in my situation to talk to Lee Boothby first. She a patron of the Arts. Jerry Emmons

Taos is ready for us! TAO

After months of planning TAO, Taos Artist Organization, is prepared for the future. TAO, was founded by artists for artists to promote our community of visual artists. Our primary goal is the restoration of Taos as a premier international destination for those seeking a vibrant, world class visual arts colony. We create a forum for visual artists and the greater community to work together to inspire and promote one another. We will become an integral part of the internal workings of our community so that all visual artists have a voice. To achieve our directive, we will build the Taos Visual Art Center with exhibition spaces and studios where artists will create two and three dimensional art. The Visual Art Center will be an exciting meeting place for artists to exchange ideas and will uphold the spirit of our artistic environment with changing exhibitions, educational programs, workshops, classes, private sponsorships, professional assistance and many volunteer services. Next meeting April 6th, 3pm at The Taos Gallery(formerly - Terrie Bennett Gallery)103 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte - "Downtown" Taos. All Taos Artists Welcome Visit TAO for more information

Call to Artists: Taos High School Prom Night

Saturday, April 26th from midnight to 5:30 AM

For the first time ever, Taos High School students have the opportunity to attend a fun, alcohol- and drug-free event to celebrate after the Taos H.S. prom. This event will include games, activities, prizes, music, performances and lots of food! Rocky Mountain Youth Corps, Taos High School, the DUI Program of Taos County and the Taos County Department of Public Health are collaborating on this project to provide young people with an alternative to making destructive decisions during prom season.
We are inviting the community to help support our young people and make this event a huge success. The students involved in organizing this event felt that having local artists sketch portraits of the post-prom attendees would be truly memorable. We encourage local artists to contribute to their community by donating some time to sketch the students. The volunteers could donate however much time they have available. A small stipend of $30 - $50 is available.
If you would like to participate or have any suggestions, please contact Jillian or call 751-1420 *8 ext. 12.
