Interwoven Illuminations:

Please join 24 artists

The Rane Gallery
214 Ledoux Street
Saturday October 11
6pm
for an unveiling and readings.
Regional artists and poets have come together on a project: Beginning with Bill Rane's 1981 painting, Aegean Sea Scroll, each artist (poet/visual) was asked to respond, one by one, to the artwork alternating, linked and inspired solely by the preceding unidentified artist and artwork. The art of creating art inspired by another genre is called Ekphrasis. Last year during the Taos Fall Arts Celebrations, Rane Gallery hosted "Reflections on Rane," where 11 poets read their poems inspired by different works by Bill Rane. That collection, The Master's Hand, Reflections on Rane, will be available at the Oct. 11th event. This event pushes the envelope further.
Poems are responded to by visual art, and in turn, another poet answers the painting/sculpture. The process took a year, an artistic "round robin" or "telephone tag."Will a theme emerge? Will a connection between the 24 artists be revealed? Please do come to see the specially created art work, and hear the poems.
The participating artists include: Bill Rane, Veronica Golos, Randall LaGro, Cheryl Loetscher, Dororthy Lampl, Joseph Hutchison, Seamus Berkeley, Ellaraine Lockie, Duaine O'Hagan, Karen Cordova, Homare Ikeda, Kathleen Cain, Carlos Barela, Andrea L. Watson, Nancy Delpero, Scott Wiggerman, David Hinske, Madelyn Garner, Don Ward, Carol Aronoff, Lenny Foster, Linda Arnold, Salvatore Giglio, Dora E. McQuaid.

Symmetry, Order, Perfection and Beauty

Seven Paintings at UNM
August 24th to September 13th , 2008
Public Reception: Thursday, September 11th from 4 to 6 pm

Seven large paintings by Cydney Taylor hang in the UNM-Taos Art Lobby. The paintings are from her first body of work, an eighteen year focus on colour as subject. Each painting represents a different series of work, each using a different visual format to explore ideas about symmetry, order, perfection and beauty. The common function of the formats was to hold colour without visual distractions. Motifs of hue, color saturation and tone are used for visual presence. Taylor’s work embodies timeless painting concerns first seen in the sixties and seventies. The show runs until September 13 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the UNM-Taos Klauer Campus.

"Honoring Betsy's Legacy."

4 to 6 p.m.

Friday August 8th

The Gallery on the Green

Taos Country Club.

This exhibition will feature the playful work of Betsy. In her eight years as Local Color columnist for the Taos News, Betsy Carey showed her love and support for the Taos art community by interviewing over 200 artists, never judging their work but rather exploring each artist’s unique creative process. This exhibit finally offers Taos an opportunity to honor Betsy’s own personal journey as an artist, to experience the qualities in her artwork that reflect both her true nature and her approach to life – direct, honest, bold and playful.
Also showing will be the taos gallery artists' interpretation of Betsy's Taos and will hang through October. Artists include: Leigh Gusterson, David Sprague, Tom Rogers, Nancy Delpero, Carlos Barela, Steven Gootgeld, Bill Hudson, Mark Asmus, David Vedoe, MaryAnn Warner, Michael Protiva, Issa De Nicola, Richard & Tupper Hawley, Seamus Berkeley, Mary Dolph Wood.and other artists.

Call to artists Arts and Crafts event in Lincoln, NM

We are having an arts and crafts event in Lincoln, NM on Sept. 6 & 7th.

The artist fee is only $35.00 for two days and we do not take any commission.

All proceeds benefit our non-profit group called Partners in Preservation of Lincoln State Monument.

We are trying to help preserve the historic buildings that are part of the the New Mexico State Monuments division. Some of the buildings were donated to the state but are in need of dire repairs and the state cannot afford to take care of them all.

So our group was formed to help with this project.

Thanks for your help in this matter.

Rio Costilla Valley Studio Tour

Visit http://www.riocostillastudiotour.org/ for a complete listing of Artists and Photos of their Work – Up to date Map as Well!

Date of 2008 Tour: September 6 and 7th, 2008, 10 to 5 each day.
JAROSO, COLORADO- AMALIA, NEW MEXICO.

This year, on September 6 & 7, they deck the studios with their latest work and welcome the visitors from near and far. Their doors are opened wide. You are invited to see their work, explore their creative process, and purchase these carefully crafted wares. We feature a diverse group, fine art studios and artisan markets to please a wide variety of tastes. Oils, pastels, sculpture, ceramics, furniture, iron work, glass, jewelry and jams, jellies, chutneys, wildflower fields, artisan breads and home baked goods are a few of the items they offer to visitors.

Situated at the confluence of Northern New Mexico, and Southern Colorado, it is the only event of its kind that crosses the line between two states, unites them and bridges cultures. Along the meandering course of the Rio Costilla, weaving its way to the Rio Grande, and melded into the fabric of our work are found long lost European influences, and Native traditions reborn in art. On this tour you will travel along old country roads to scenic flats of high valley sage and chamisal onto mountainous forests. Just the journey is a destination. Sometimes called the Valle Vidal or the Southern End of the San Luis Valley, our tour stretches from Amalia, New Mexico, to Jaroso, Colorado. It is an enchanted tour in an enchanted land.

We are celebrating our 10th year! We thank those of you who keep coming back, and have become our friends and patrons of our work; and we welcome you also, stranger who has yet to find your way here. We invite you to mark those dates on your calendar, get out in the fresh air, and come celebrate the arts. You just might find something special or at least have memories of a day that will bring a smile to your heart when you return to where you live. This tour is free of charge and open to the public.
