Steve Immel Photography Workshops at Northside at Taos Ski Valley
Join Steve Immel on our inaugural photography adventure into the wilds of Northside at Taos Ski Valley. Northside’s 1,200 vertiginous acres are laced with trails and endless vistas that are best enjoyed in our four wheel drive shuttle where owner Roger Pattison will show us the best photo stashes in his mountain paradise. We’ll start with some photography basics and a cup of Joe at The Bavarian. We’ll discuss Camera 101 for those who want it (please bring your manual). We’ll address aperture size versus shutter speed, automatic versus manual operation, shooting in RAW and choosing the best ISO for your camera and the conditions. You’ll receive hands-on instruction as we cris-cross Northside, topping out at 12,163 feet on Frazer Mountain. You’ll begin to develop the ability to see more and to use that vision to find and frame compelling compositions. We’ll discuss the basic rules of design and when it’s time to break those rules. It’s been said that a successful photographic image is fusion of concept, composition, craft and attitude. In this daylong workshop you’ll get an overview of all of this in the undiscovered beauty of Northside at Taos Ski Valley. Our day commences at The Bavarian Lodge at dark o’clock and ends back at The Bavarian for a review and critique of the day’s images. There’s an Optimator in your future, my friends. This one-time only $195 per person price (two person minimum) includes a four wheel drive shuttle vehicle and guide, a box lunch and personal instruction throughout the day. And as an extra inducement for you to participate in our maiden voyage I’m throwing in an unmatted 13”x19” print of any image on my website. The print has a retail value of $175 so it pretty much pays for the workshop. See the images at www.steveimmelphotography.com. To pick a date call me at 575-751-1037 or email me at steve@steveimmelphotography.com. Please pass this on to folks you think might like this trip.Thursday, May 13, 2010
Fundraiser
What:Local Fund-raising Event
Where: the taos gallery, 133 Bent Street on Wednesday
When: May 19th from 4:30 PM-7:00 PM
About:
Vision Marketing Associates is producing a documentary film about Mabel Dodge, Tony Lujan and how the modernist artists came to be part of the Taos Art Colony. This film, intended for distribution through PBS networks, and for sale through bookstores and NM State Museums, could have major impacts for the town of Taos. We are therefore inviting you to a fundraiser to help see that this project is completed with the cooperation of the Taos Community.
Awakening in Taos is an intimate story about the passionate forces at work within the life of Mabel Dodge Luhan. Luhan was a writer, artist, visionary thinker, philosopher, salon hostess, and creative catalyst for social change. Born before the dawn of the 20th Century, Luhan began life in the Victorian age, and then grew to embody the paradigm of a progressive New Woman in the Modern Era.
Luhan was passionate and vocal about supporting social and environmental issues during the 1910’s, 20’s and 30’s. As a writer and columnist for the Hearst newspapers, she had a national audience for her ideas. The issues that commanded her attention back then, are the same issues that we must confront and understand in our world today: vanishing wilderness, living sustainably, creating an inclusive community, building bridges between races and cultures, finding the balance between modern living, creative expression and spirituality.
